Indigenous Internship Program

The Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.

You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (2 positions at 435 James St, Thunder Bay)
Northern Region, Program Service Delivery:
Join the Thunder Bay Office where you will provide analysis and advice on the work underway to remediate the English and Wabigoon Rivers, coordinate the delivery of environmental compliance across northern Ontario and business planning for support functions that are critical to field operations. As part of the team, you will work with local Indigenous communities, as well as apply your research, analytical, business acumen and communication skills to provide project coordination, prepare recommendations and present materials to management/stakeholders.

Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (1 position at 119 King Street W, Hamilton)
West Central Region, Program Service Delivery:
The Program and Service Delivery intern position will be critical to support West Central Region (WCR) in maintaining timely local air quality program delivery and ministry commitments in other lead areas and will provide continuity of service on core business. WCR is the lead for the ministry's Air Program that is designed to prevent and address adverse effects from the discharge of air pollutants into the natural environment. WCR is also compliance lead for wind turbines, Greener Fuels, Spill Cost Recovery and Ozone Depleting Substances. You will be supporting team by conducting research, summarizing findings, conducting stakeholder outreach and supporting ongoing improvement to compliance delivery.

Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (1 position at 40 St Clair Ave West, Toronto)
Conservation and Source Protection Branch
The Program and Services Delivery intern position will be supporting priority files of the branch, including program and policy work under the Clean Water Act, the framework drinking water source protection, and the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, the framework for parks protected areas in Ontario. The intern will contribute to data analysis, research and stakeholder outreach and support source protection program administration. The Probation and Parole regional offices deliver probation and parole services in a dynamic team environment grounded in principles of respect, safety, inclusion, equity, diversity, and accessibility. These offices work to enhance and promote community and victim safety through the assessment and effective case management of offenders on community supervision.
Probation and Parole offices work in collaboration with justice partners and colleagues, in order to reduce recidivism and advance community safety and justice. These offices also assist the Courts and Ontario Parole Board by providing informed, objective and professional information to support sentencing and parole decisions as well as work to enable rehabilitation by supporting/guiding offender change efforts and providing meaningful interventions including enforcing conditions on supervision orders.

Join the Environmental Management Branch and work with a diversity of partners to support the sustainable management of land and resources within the agri-food sector and learn first-hand about the coordination, operation, and delivery of agri-environmental programs. The Operations and Transformation Services Branch manages the exclusive portfolio of segregated and centralized corporate financial services on behalf of the Province of Ontario and leads the transformation of their delivery. We provide services from supplier/vendor set up, payment processing, reconciliation, T4A-HST reporting to corporate card management. Emergency Health Program Management & Delivery Branch
Emergency Health Program Management and Delivery Branch is responsible for the delivery of 911 communication services for the province of Ontario. The North Field Office has 12 municipal Designated Delivery Agents for Land Ambulance and 5 First Nations for Land Ambulance dispersed at 98 land ambulance bases. There are 8 Northern Central Ambulance Communication Centres (CACCs) providing emergency medical 9-1-1 communication and coordination of Emergency Medical Services resources. Examples of work that this position would be involved with, is to review, document, and analyze trends in Transfer Payment budgets over a multi year period, and conduct research, summarize findings as needed and support the development of business/information/briefing notes. The Intern would also support the Medical Priority Dispatch System deployment in the Northern CACCs as required with Senior Program Lead direction and assistance.

The Health Insurance Branch is responsible for policy and programs in support of Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) eligibility, registration and health cards; appeals and subrogation on behalf of the General Manager of OHIP; prior approvals for insured health services provided outside of Ontario; as well as the funding and quality oversight of independent health facilities.
